I know reviews are incredibly subjective, and I regret that my rating will be lower simply because I have read something that doesn't necessarily fit with my tastes。 The pacing, character, composition, dialogue--all of the technical things are executed so well。 The audiobook production is excellent。 The premise is perfect。 I'm not a true crime/cold case solving officianado, but I do find these stories engaging, and I appreciate the work that goes into helping people find closure and peace。 It's I know reviews are incredibly subjective, and I regret that my rating will be lower simply because I have read something that doesn't necessarily fit with my tastes。 The pacing, character, composition, dialogue--all of the technical things are executed so well。 The audiobook production is excellent。 The premise is perfect。 I'm not a true crime/cold case solving officianado, but I do find these stories engaging, and I appreciate the work that goes into helping people find closure and peace。 It's the content that got to me。 I don't like a lot of profanity, but can handle some。 The culture of infidelity and small-town sleeping around was a big no-go for me。 I do understand, though, that there's a market for this kind of entertainment, and in this case, it's executed well。 Hence, it's three stars from me。 5-stars for execution。 1-star for content。 Thanks to NetGalley for the audiobook ARC。 。。。more

Lucy Chase and her best friend Savannah (known to everyone as "Savvy") are beloved in their small Texas town。 Both are beautiful and smart, but Lucy has returned from college married to a man with generational wealth, while Savvy is known as a very social butterfly with boyfriends all over town。 One evening, Lucy is found walking down the road covered in Savvy's blood with no memory of what happened。 Five years later, Lucy has moved to California and a meddlesome podcaster is reopening the case Lucy Chase and her best friend Savannah (known to everyone as "Savvy") are beloved in their small Texas town。 Both are beautiful and smart, but Lucy has returned from college married to a man with generational wealth, while Savvy is known as a very social butterfly with boyfriends all over town。 One evening, Lucy is found walking down the road covered in Savvy's blood with no memory of what happened。 Five years later, Lucy has moved to California and a meddlesome podcaster is reopening the case on what happened that terrible night, and all the wounds associated with it。I have been a fan of Amy Tintera's young adult fiction for a long time so I was very excited to learn she was writing a novel for adult audiences。 I am not, however, a huge fan of mysteries, but for Tintera I was willing to give it a go and I was not disappointed。I loved Listen for the Lie from start to finish。 Lucy's matter-of-fact acceptance that everyone, including her parents, believes she murdered Savvy was refreshing and heartbreaking。 I often found myself amazed at her ability to walk with her head held high in the face of the glares and the not-so-whispered suspicions。 It's hard to sympathize with a suspected murderer, and yet I couldn't help but cheer for Lucy。 She has learned to cope by being sarcastic, blunt and refusing to ignore the elephant in the room — that she may have murdered her best friend。Ben Owens is likable as the podcaster trying to uncover the truth。 Lucy's grandmother, Beverly, is a delight and a wonderful counterpoint to her painful parents。 Lucy and Savvy's friends, their former neighbors, Lucy's ex-husband are all interview subjects as Ben tries to fit the pieces of the puzzle together to unlock Lucy's memories and find out what happened to Savvy。I definitely had my suspicions about who murdered Savvy along the way, and there are plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing if you don't spend too much time thinking about it。While this was completely different than any other book I've ready by Amy Tintera I enjoyed it thoroughly and I can't wait until her next one。Thanks to NetGalley for this advance copy! 。。。more

Pretty much all of the residents believe she had murdered her best friend。 She was never prosecuted for the killing - and she never went back home。 Until now。 Lucy is completely different than I had expected。 I appreciated something different and unexpected to catch my attention。 she's got a dark sense of humor and she freely jokes that she just might be the killer。 Is she a killer? Innocent? Her inner voice is loud - and very dark。 It's more than a little concerning。 Her behaviour just seems to purposely rile up those who loved the victim。There is a wealth of supporting characters who provide their thoughts, memories and actions to the host of the podcast。 I have to say that my favorite character was Beverly - Lucy's Grandmother。 You'll see why。 Now, I mentioned the epistolary style。 It's absolutely the perfect way to hide the clues。 Who is lying? Who changes their narrative? Will you put the pieces together before the last page? I'm happy to say that I didn't! And again, it's nice to not know the ending。This was a fun read and I hope that Tintera tackles another adult book。 。。。more

Listen for the Lie centers on Lucy who can’t remember if she killed her best friend five years ago。This is a highly digestible mystery where the author utilized short paragraphs and chapters, resulting in a quick read。At the core of this novel, we need Lucy to remember what happened on the night of the incident, and one of my favorite mystery novels does rely on the main character remembering exactly what was said in the past (The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager)。 However, for most of Listen for Listen for the Lie centers on Lucy who can’t remember if she killed her best friend five years ago。This is a highly digestible mystery where the author utilized short paragraphs and chapters, resulting in a quick read。At the core of this novel, we need Lucy to remember what happened on the night of the incident, and one of my favorite mystery novels does rely on the main character remembering exactly what was said in the past (The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager)。 However, for most of Listen for the Lie, I didn’t feel that we were making progress, mainly interviews from people who knew next to nothing。Also, I wanted to learn more about memory, think Anna O。 and sleepwalking。 Personally, if my best friend died, I wouldn’t try to remember for two days and give up。 Lucy just kind of does nothing, a leaf in the wind, waiting for someone to determine her fate。There is this voice in Lucy’s head, encouraging her to unalive people; however, it isn’t very entertaining and finally becomes rather annoying and tedious。And, although it seems that everyone wants to get Lucy into her birthday suit, the steam wasn’t as good as author May Cobb。Then, there is the ending。 It was extremely confusing—I am not even sure what the author intended。 But I think I figured out a solution……。。*SPOILER*MEGA-SPOILER(view spoiler)[At the very end of the book, Lucy says, “It isn’t the whole truth。” So is the reader supposed to assume that Lucy just made everything up? Or that she merely omitted the part about Troy and Matt? Holy moly。 What a ride。 I absolutely LOVED this podcast thriller。 Listen for the Lie follows Lucy as she's 5 years past a traumatic date。。。。the apparent murder of her best friend。 And spoiler, she did it。。。 or she is at least blamed for it in her small Texan town。 After the death of her best friend, Lucy has amnesia and cannot remember details of that night。 But Ben, Host for Listen for the Lie podcast has picked up her case and digs up details that weren't found before。 This is an extremely bin Holy moly。 What a ride。 I absolutely LOVED this podcast thriller。 Listen for the Lie follows Lucy as she's 5 years past a traumatic date。。。。the apparent murder of her best friend。 And spoiler, she did it。。。 or she is at least blamed for it in her small Texan town。 After the death of her best friend, Lucy has amnesia and cannot remember details of that night。 But Ben, Host for Listen for the Lie podcast has picked up her case and digs up details that weren't found before。 This is an extremely bingeable read。 So, make sure you give yourself a little chunk of time because you won't want to put it down。 Lucy was such a well done, but extremely unique character in the fact that she has a voice in her head。 The formatting of the book was great with podcast transcripts woven throughout, and a couple of flashback chapters。 I was just really impressed with this one and cannot recommend it enough。 A huge thank you to Netgalley and Celadon Books for an advanced e-copy! 。。。more
